Kraken joins X’s Cashtag program to link social discussion with trading.
Kraken has become an official Cashtag partner on X, letting users tap a ticker such as $BTC and move straight into Kraken’s app to buy it. The deal extends a pattern that began when Twitter first linked Cashtags to eToro in 2023, and it shows exchanges competing as hard for the moment someone gets curious about an asset as for the trade itself.
- Kraken joined X’s US Cashtag partner program on Sept. 16, adding a direct link into its trading app.
- eToro’s 2023 Twitter Cashtag partnership followed 420 million global Cashtag searches logged in the first three months of that year.
- The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority found in a 2024 study of more than 9,000 consumers that push notifications raised trading activity by 11%.
- 420M Cashtag searches on Twitter in first three months of 2023
- 4.7M average daily $Cashtag searches during that same period
- 11% rise in trading activity from push notifications, per FCA study
- Sep 16 date Kraken became an official X Cashtag partner
According to reporting by CryptoSlate, Kraken joined X’s US Cashtag partner program on Sept. 16, giving users on the platform a direct route from tickers like $BTC into its exchange. Tapping a Cashtag surfaces related posts and a price chart inside X, and a linked trading button sends users into Kraken’s app or website to sign in, register, and complete a purchase.
Kraken’s own announcement frames the deal as a way to become easier to find inside apps people already use. X is not becoming an exchange, and the trade itself still happens at Kraken.
Kraken’s Cashtag Link Shortens a Historically Long Path to a Trade
What changes is the distance between spotting an asset and reaching somewhere that sells it, a gap that has traditionally been surprisingly wide in crypto. Someone might first hear about Bitcoin on X, read a thread, search the price elsewhere, compare exchanges, open an account, fund it, and only then return to the asset that started the whole chain several steps earlier. Kraken’s Cashtag link compresses much of that sequence into the same environment where the interest began.
Fees, liquidity, and execution quality still matter once someone is comparing platforms, but distribution now shapes which platforms make it into that comparison at all. Kraken does not need every Cashtag tap to convert into a trade; it needs to be one of the destinations users think of when reading about an asset turns into wanting exposure to it.
eToro’s 420 Million Searches Set the Precedent for Cashtag Deals
Kraken’s move follows a template Twitter and eToro built in 2023, when the two companies expanded $Cashtag price charts and added a click-through into eToro’s platform to invest. eToro’s announcement cited an average of 4.7 million daily $Cashtag searches and 420 million total searches globally in the first three months of 2023.
Twitter has become a crucial part of the retail investing community – it’s where millions of ordinary investors go every day to access financial news, share knowledge and converse.

Twitter’s then-VP of Global Sales & Marketing, Chris Riedy, said at the time that the platform would keep investing in growing its finance-focused user community.
X’s recommendation system now sits beside the buy button
X’s recommendation system uses signals such as likes, reposts, replies, and connections to populate the For You feed beyond the accounts a user deliberately follows. Those systems are built to surface attention, not to vet whether an investment makes sense, and placing a trading link beside that feed makes attention financially actionable faster than before.
The FCA’s 2024 experiment, which was not about X or Cashtags specifically, found that points and prize draws increased trading by 12% alongside the 11% rise tied to push notifications. Its relevance to Kraken’s integration is that interface design measurably changes trading behavior, and on X that design now begins before a user ever reaches an exchange.
The BlockWest read. The real contest here is over distribution deals, not fee schedules. If Cashtag clicks send Kraken users who already arrive convinced, expect exchanges to bid harder for feed placement across X, and expect compliance teams to start asking whether a buy button embedded in a recommendation feed needs its own disclosure standard, separate from the exchange’s existing account-opening flow.
Kraken has not disclosed how many trades have originated from Cashtag clicks since the partnership began on September 16, and X has not said whether it plans to add exchanges beyond Kraken to the program that eToro helped pioneer in 2023. Whether Cashtag-driven volume becomes large enough for either company to break out separately is still an open question.
