Key takeaways
  • Sense is a decentralized messenger on EOS that removes intermediaries from conversations by storing encrypted messages on blockchain nodes rather than centralized servers.
  • The platform uses public and private key cryptography to lock message data during transit, allowing users to retrieve conversations without the company accessing them.
  • Sense originally built an MVP called Crypto IBM on Ethereum but switched to EOS for better account readability and scalability for consumer applications.
  • The Sense token is migrating from Ethereum ERC-20 to EOS using the IBC 21 protocol at a one-to-one ratio, with iOS and Android apps launching alongside the migration.
  • Upcoming features include monetization tools for conversations, video chat capabilities, and digital asset creation based on blockchain technology.

I'm Ashlyn Addison from event chain for investmentpitch media and FinTech news network and today on blockchain interviews we have crystal Rose the CEO of sense chat a decentralized messenger built on top of the EOS blockchain platform crystal pleasure to have you on the show today and it's great to see you thank you for having me you're very welcome

so let's talk about sense let's start by giving us an overview of the project the app and what solutions you guys are providing since it's a centralized messenger so that means that there are notes that live in the messages they're going between users we are providing a service or privacy and the chat is so that you can transact and have

conversations about anyone buying on your Eric storing it on your B mm-hmm great that's a simple solution and I guess to elaborate really that's the differentiator between all of these mainstream apps right now whatsapp Facebook messenger in these things there's been there's some problems that you guys are addressing and I'm glad that you guys are doing that so it's

interesting how having a decentralized platform and trying to protect against privacy really goes back to integrating the blockchain and the attributes behind that so if you could elaborate a little bit on you know what makes this decentralized and how you guys are utilizing the eos blockchain I'd appreciate that sure well the blockchain is really useful for creating a connection between

parties and allowing them to have a peer-to-peer transaction and this is the transaction is a transaction as data or messages so if you out what the bit I'm really happy at coin transforms digital currency if you cash by removing that intermediary we are removing the intermediary in conversations in the same way so device is a node and each node stores data we really believe

fundamentally that it's unnecessary even if you encrypt the data which can do on the transfer but even with encrypted data we think that it's unnecessary to store a user data and especially if you're able to company unlock and any access that data later so you thought chain is used so that we can lose the users private key for everyone wallets worth to get a public and a

private key and so we would take the public key of each user and create another key that locks and stores of data in the middle of that transaction once it's once they've been able to both be online and the messages go through we have a method over that you know swatching that allows to pass that through us ever accessing it as a company and the words can then get their

data safely and with the conversation that's ever happened which initiative so we like okay that's great and I like how you give a little bit of the technical background but I appreciate that what I see in sense is that for people that are just sending messages directly they they don't need to necessarily know about private keys and public keys they

just need to understand that when you're sending a message it's directly to that person as you would be sending Bitcoin for example to somebody directly and nobody is able to intercept that and you really are controlling your own privacy with the data that you're sending is that is that really the ideology behind it exactly and especially with the messaging tool we need to get to the

point where we can scale consumer applications and have them accessible everyone's videos blockchain also makes it easy for us to create accounts that are human readable you have a twelve your account name it's much easier than remembering – or the process that typically happens with with different wallets I think that's a bigger innovation and that something where I

see a lot and other chains as well but we're getting closer and closer incrementally mass consumption on applications and so for us messaging the number one every one day and that's the top usage of your phone we're really excited that we could take watching technology prove upon Street process mm-hmm that's great and I agree with you that it's gonna be needed for mainstream adoption

and that's why I'm sort of curious because a lot of people in the cryptocurrency industry are familiar with aetherium as one of the top platforms that people have been building apps on in the past now and part of the reason is because the wallet infrastructure and the interoperability and the ERC 20 standard that allows people to switch between different

platforms and have you know that simple solution where you can transfer things and I know a lot of people are they know that if you need that for mainstream adoption and to get out of the the 99% of the world that doesn't still know about decentralized technologies so did you guys base your decision to build it on the EOS blockchain knowing that it has the infrastructure ready to have

people that aren't as familiar with blockchain technology and the the details behind it and just know that it's it has the ability for people to onboard easily without understanding the technical knowledge that was definitely one of the benefits and we originally we looked at years because availability it because of the lack of trim these we did build on to start we have a class called

crypto IBM which is a an MVP of our messaging system so basically you could send a direct message into a specialized most crypto attach to it we all understand how what gatsby's are and as a user it becomes really problematic when you see that a hunk of your trick actions being taken so the instruction relies on Ram and relies on resources and really is the developer the Builder

to take those resources so it's a back-end sort of it worked really well for us and as we started to develop out the front-end we were really excited because we saw that the accounts were going to work really well for our needs I think identity in general is something that this year is going to be worked on across all chains we're going to see a lot of really good solutions and for me

that's up also the important component of this creating soft entity we really have seen like the privacy breaches with all of the Biggers perks and messengers we've also seen these privacy breaches with phone numbers being hacked and we get stolen and with email addresses that's the historical four years so I think now more than ever we see blocked and coming

into each component of what's important when you're when you do have an ecosystem and assessing and messaging it's such a private activity so we're excited about you know that ask and I think it's really valid I said consumers probably will never even know that it's on the blockchain eventually mm-hmm that's great that's wonderful to hear so as you mentioned you had your MVP on

etherium and you do have an aetherium token and now that is being switched to a Neos coin so is the system going to be compatible with the theory I'm still and also can you elaborate on what to the Yost's tokens that you guys are creating how is that integrated into sense the token is on aetherium today and we're going to be using a protocol that does a

complete migration it's called is 21 it goes from here 20s and it doesn't apartment and we're switching one to one twins or a ratio actually agrees we built this long side of the block producer Shias and first free software so anyone can do it I know there are thousands of projects on is are on the ethereal watching today and those projects on it might be looking to

create up after that's more saleable so the problem I want to migrate there to open as well so that's something that we're working on and will be part of the release when they have the two apps we have iOS index right now in pre-order and we have the Android app when its tail this link and as soon as those launch will do the full token migrations everyone can have their wallets

that's wonderful crystal so you guys are switching the token to EOS you're coming out with the Android app what else do you guys have store for the roadmap for the next six to eight months here well I think the baseline is getting everything solid and so you know as we have seen the protocols they develop tech I wrote an article recently that talked about me

the year and the protocols and in the year of the adapts and I think this is their adapts and so as we have a space layer that has been created the messenger where we're now able to build upon it so one of the things we're really interested in doing is just improving the entire user messaging experience and so on our roadmap we have some really exciting features where

things are going to be able to monetize their conversations and have video chats and today we already have workings few months ago first overdue a blockchain connection that did a your video call and so our our application has video messaging built into the core audio video and and text and we'll put some fun features in one of my favorite I think that is coming up with its based

on the Tees it allows us to create digital assets and little kids inside of the chat stream like stickers so for the first time yours can have value that's wonderful yeah I've heard a lot about non fungible tokens there's actually a conference coming up in New York specifically for known fungible tokens and the future of tokenizing assets and everything on the stock market and all

of those digitizing things is all to do with non fungible tokens so I appreciate that you guys are focusing on that as well as having the EOS 21 tokens so that's really cool and I'm excited to see that now it sounds like you guys have a lot on your plate for 2019 do you foresee any obstacles or is it more just a matter of getting people to use the system you know what challenges do you

foresee for the near future I think the overall problem or challenge or anyone building from today is adoption we're a lot of those problems with the use of use of creating an account and this account could be used across Theo scotch they can be used for other applications so it makes it really easy ecosystem is also one of the big benefits we have about building you know

as a broad community that's watching community is is interoperability between our products really that's one of the biggest hurdles and I think this is a challenge that has existed all types of products in strength since the user adoption challenge but really I think that users are becoming very very smart and very aware to what their options so we're creating this possibility um I

think this year is the year that people will break away from the paradigm of watching the currency and the two things are the same we're going to actually understand that those two are inner plates but not you know it's not it's not fully synonymous watching as locations across every other area of the world so so this is a really exciting here to meet all of the decks coming and

we're also thinking to do a protocol or an SDK to let people build alongside us so any message tools or anything be done in Center we're inviting developers to work with us as well that's wonderful crystal especially with decentralized projects and community based projects you're always looking for more support and for people in the blockchain industry to support each other to build

this infrastructure to have these programs that can be used by the mainstream so I really like what you guys are doing and you guys have so much on your plate are you expanding the team or are you just looking for people to test the applications and how can people get involved with the project we are inviting people to join us for the beta we have a few thousand people that have

already early stages and who are providing people so as the Thai community we're really excited to give people rewards doing that the early being helpful and we are it's all out on our team we're really excited to brought on some amazing people this here and just round out kind of last year so always looking for people who are joining even contact us

and let us know you know what they're interested in and what their skill sets are I think it's always important to keep you know keep your horizons open for the team for the users were really excited about I'm looking at different prospects a major consumer market that hasn't been addressed yet and I think the US community is such an amazing community that were they within

community and with your watching over all community anybody who understands how you know private keys or a wallet works for now for the data and for the testing and so has the Android who has a desire to try video messaging on blockchain we're really not wonderful thank you so much crystal I'll leave

your guys's contact information in the description box below as well so people can easily contact you and get some more testers and get more people using the applications so that's wonderful that's all the time that we have for now I've really enjoyed speaking to you today and I'm looking forward to the Android app coming out as I am an Android user and I

will definitely be one of those people that is testing sense firsthand so I would love to be a part of that because it sounds like you guys are doing something amazing so thank you so much for your time and I really appreciate it great thank you I'm happy to make sense with you
