Canton Network

A privacy-focused blockchain network for financial institutions, built by Digital Asset, that connects separately operated ledgers so they can transact atomically.

Also called: Canton

The Canton Network is an interoperable blockchain designed by Digital Asset for regulated finance. Applications are written in the Daml smart contract language, and each participant sees only the data relevant to its own transactions rather than a fully public ledger.

Independent applications, run by different institutions, connect through a shared coordination layer called the Global Synchronizer. This lets assets and cash on separate applications settle together in a single atomic transaction. The network has a native token, Canton Coin, used to pay for synchronizer services.

Canton matters because it targets the privacy, control and interoperability concerns that keep banks off fully public chains. Example: banks, asset managers and market infrastructure firms have used Canton to pilot tokenized bonds, repo and collateral movements that settle delivery versus payment across institutions.
